The First Annual Sort Pink!
What a day! What an event! What FUN! Over 300 teams ultimately signed up for the 1st annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana - Sort Pink Celebrity Sorting!
Special "Hat's Off" congratulations and a hearty Tough Enough to Wear Pink "Thank You" to all of the volunteers who successfully put on a world-class Ranch Sorting event! In particular, the entire Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana organization would like to recognize Deb Hall, Sandy Meyers, Jim Brown and Phil Mainey for their exceptional efforts to produce the 1st annual Sort Pink production!
We would also like to thank the volunteers who spent countless hours to make this event such a huge success for both the Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana organization as well as the hundreds of competitors who came from all across Western Montana to compete in the 1st annual Sort Pink Celebrity Team Sorting. In particular, we would like to pay special thanks to:
- Lynne Sholty & Anita Brown - Show Secretaries
- Wanda Enger, Tami McMahon & Sue Major - Score Keepers
- Gerry Banzet & Randie Stone - Official Judge & Timer
- Mike McMachon & his son Braxton - Head cattle wrangler's
- Judy Morton (The Biscuit in Arlee) and Kathy Matejka - Food Services
- Daryl - Announcer Extrodinaire
- Lynne Sholty - Book keeping
- All those who volunteered for gate operators & floor managers
- Jamie Stannick - Auctioneer
- Dayna Meier - Photographer
Last, but not least, we would like to thank all of the competitors, sponsors and bidders who came from all across Western Montana to participate in the event.
The event was a smashing success. Several thousand dollars were raised for the Tough Enough to Wear Pink of Montana organization. We had a few "bump's" in the road, but the competitors and volunteers took them in stride and helped make the event successful. We will learn from the bumps to ensure that the 2nd Annual Sort Pink event will run even better!
When the dust settled, we had 10 Celebrity teams to compete in our Sort Pink Celebrity class. The competition was fierce and after 2 go-rounds, it was the team of David Lewis (pro rider out of Victor Montana) and Nancy Condit (Celebrity rider represnting Pacific Medical out of Missoula Montana) taking the custom Montana Silversmith trophy buckles with 16 head of cattle in a time of 118.63! Congratulations to Dave and Nancy for a stellar team sorting performance!
The Pro-Open class wound up with 29 teams in a 3-go average. Pro riders Phil Mainey (Victor Montana) and David Lewis set the bar at 30 head sorted in a time of 148.09 to top out the competition and take home the 1st place money!
Our Beginner Class was one of the most popular classes with 70 teams in a 2 go average. After the last flag dropped, it was beginner riders Debbie Richardson (Missoula) and Deb Hall (Missoula) taking home the custom trophy buckles with 14 head sorted in a time of 114.75! Congratulations to Deb and Debbie! (And YES, you are no longer Beginners!).
The Open Draw class was also a favorite among the competitors with a total of 70 teams. The computer-drawn team of David Lewis and Brad Schoepf (Eureka, Montana) seemed like a good bet to take home the buckles, and they did not let us down. With 20 head in a time of 99.92, these two "open" riders topped out the competition.
